Special Weather Statement issued June 18 at 8:15PM EDT by NWS Buffalo NY Scattered thunderstorms found across parts of the western Southern Tier...Genesee valley at 8 PM will advance across the Finger Lakes region during the course of this evening. The slow moving storms will generate torrential downpours that could produce as much as two inches of rain in less than an hour...along with frequent cloud to ground lightning and localized wind gusts in excess of 50 mph. Small hail cannot be ruled out. The storms should move out of these areas by 11 PM.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

Special Weather Statement issued June 18 at 9:22PM EDT by NWS Buffalo NY At 922 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Byron, or 9 miles southwest of Brockport, moving northeast at 15 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and half inch hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... Brockport, Gates-North Gates, Spencerport, Churchville, Holley, Clarendon, Bergen, and North Chili. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.
