heat warning in effect A period of very warm and humid weather continues. Time span: continuing through today. Maximum temperature today: 29 to 32 degrees Celsius (inland Humidex near 38) Minimum temperature tonight: 18 to 20 degrees. Locations: Prince Edward Island. Remarks: Nighttime lows are forecast to remain fairly warm, limiting overnight cooling. Some relief may be found in communities located very close to the water. Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration. Watch for early signs of heat illness - feeling unwell, fatigue, thirst, headache - all these can rapidly evolve into life-threatening emergencies. Move to a cooler environment immediately, such as a shaded or air-conditioned space. Heat stroke is a medical emergency! Call 911 or your local emergency number immediately if you or someone you are caring for has a high body temperature and is either confused, has stopped sweating or becomes unconscious. While waiting for help, cool the person right away: move them to a cool place, apply cold water to large areas of the skin and fan the person as much as possible. ### Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to [email protected] or tweet reports using #PEStorm. Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle. All workers should take regularly scheduled breaks in a cool or shaded space.

severe thunderstorm watch in effect Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain. Potential rainfall rates: 25 to 50 mm per hour in thunderstorms. Potential wind gusts: 70 to 90 km/h or higher in thunderstorms. Locations: Prince Edward Island. Time span: this afternoon until this evening. Remarks: Strong thunderstorms may develop this afternoon along a cold front as it moves south across the Maritimes. Localized heavy downpours and very strong wind gusts may accompany some of these thunderstorms. ### Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to [email protected] or tweet reports using #PEStorm. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
