Air Quality Alert issued May 27 at 11:42AM MDT by NWS Albuquerque NM AQAABQ The following message is transmitted at the request of the New Mexico Departments of Health and Environment, City of Albuquerque Environmental Health, and the Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program. * WHAT...Unhealthy air quality levels for sensitive groups due to wildfire smoke. * WHERE...In the vicinity of the Blue 2 Fire, including Ruidoso and areas immediately downwind. * WHEN...Through Tuesday morning. * IMPACTS...For sensitive groups, limit intense or lengthy physical activity. It's OK to be active outside by take more breaks and do less intense activities. Watch for symptoms such as coughing or shortness of breath. For people with asthma, follow your asthma action plan, if applicable, and keep quick relief medicine handy. Watch for symptoms and take action if needed. For people with heart disease, symptoms such as a fast pulse or heartbeat, shortness of breath, or unusual weakness may indicate a health problem. If you have any of these, call your health care provider. * HEALTH INFORMATION...Remember, your eyes are your best tools to determine if it is safe to be outside. If visibility is: Under 5 miles, the air quality is unhealthy for young children, adults over age 65, pregnant women, and people with heart and/or lung disease, asthma or other respiratory illness. Around 3 miles, young children, adults over age 65, pregnant women, and people with heart and/or lung disease, asthma or other respiratory illness should avoid all outdoor activities. Around 1 mile, the air quality is unhealthy for everyone. People should remain indoors and avoid all outdoor activities including running errands. Unless an evacuation has been issued, stay inside your home, indoor workplace, or in a safe shelter.
