Special Weather Statement issued May 31 at 3:27PM CDT by NWS Hastings NE BRIEF FUNNEL CLOUDS POSSIBLE WITH AREA OF SHOWERS OR THUNDERSTORMS... Funnel clouds will be possible through this afternoon along a line of showers and thunderstorms moving east through the area. Funnel clouds in this environment are usually brief, drop only a few hundred feet from the cloud base, and rarely become a tornado. If they do touch down, it is usually for a very brief period and the damage is relatively minor. If a funnel is sighted, first take any necessary tornado safety precautions, and then report the funnel activity to the National Weather Service in Hastings and local law enforcement. In addition, torrential rainfall is occurring with these storms, and areas of flash flooding is possible. Areas of flooding may take a few hours to recede, even after rainfall stops. Remember, do not drive through flooded roadways. Please report any flooding to the National Weather Service in Hastings and local law enforcement.
